Just started to dig into this one…sounds like a small crowd. It’s my first listen to the guys in a bit…and I’ll take a stab at creating some discussion.
Nice MOTA opener. Had some really good parts.
DMC just has this raw feel to it. I love the song and where Brock takes it.
Glad to hear an AIM. Really like the change around the 4:30 mark. Nice HR led segment. Would be sweet to hear a SBD of this; HR gets a little loud in the mix which kinda drowns out the underlying layers from the rest of the band. If you’re an AIM fan, it’s a must listen.
Echo is solid. Brock’s playing is pretty clean and tight.
The Detox breakdown segment is pure nastiness. High moment of the set so far. Love that HR stayed with the piano rather than going to some other sound. It gives it a Tweezer-esqe depth to it. Maybe I shouldn’t say that, but it’s an arena size sound for sure. Another moment that I would love in SBD version.
I think that I would have gotten more into Waltz if it had been in the second set. HR kinda gets into that same quick pattern that was in AIM and while it contains that classic Waltz feel…it doesn’t do much for me multiple times in a set. (insert the smiley ducking a brink icon) Aside of that, it’s a standard, rocking version.
ATE was standard…
Really excited to see Green Tea. Easily top three PG song for me. That first improv segment has this No Quarter feel that I really like. I love how it gets this dark, eerie feel at the 5:30 mark. There’s a couple good call and response moments between Brock and HR later on as one of the last segments builds up. There’s a lot of patience as well. Makes me wonder what kind of communication was going on on-stage.
ATE II kept the energy flowing and hit some high points. I really enjoy the piano in it. Another example of how that specific sound gives the band more depth.
The Noise is such a great song. While this is just a standard version, it’s a great version.
SQ > BO > GJ > SQ = WHOA. Smooth transitions, Bone Thugz reference in GJ, nice Epic segment, really big finish
